The organisation of the annual general meeting poses new challenges for investor relations and legal departments every year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the legislator made the virtual general meeting possible for all companies for the first time in spring 2020.

In view of the positive experience with the virtual format and the goal of harmonising the advancing digitalisation with the requirements of the German Stock Corporation Act, the legislator decided to adopt the virtual general meeting as a fixed component of the German Stock Corporation Act.

The linchpin of the new regulation is to depict the virtual format as a fully-fledged alternative to the general meeting in presence and, above all, to safeguard shareholder rights.
At the virtual stocks & standards workshop, you will learn more about the implementation of general meetings in 2023 and the associated communication and legal challenges.
